Introduction to the Arkansas Elementary Science Standards: Understanding DCI, SEP, and CCC
Wednesday July 9, 2025 10:05am - 10:55am CDT
This professional development session introduces educators to the Arkansas Elementary Science Standards by providing a foundational understanding of the key components: Disciplinary Core Ideas (DCI), Science and Engineering Practices (SEP), and Crosscutting Concepts (CCC). Participants will gain insight into what each of these components represents and how they work together to create a cohesive science curriculum. Emphasis will be placed on helping educators recognize the distinctions between these elements and how they collectively support student learning in science. Educators will also explore resources that can help them implement the standards in their classrooms and get an overview of how these standards translate into practice on the state assessment (ATLAS).

Speech Development for Elementary Students
Wednesday July 9, 2025 11:05am - 11:55am CDT
Good communication skills are key to student success, but some students need extra support to develop clear speech and strong language skills. In this session, we’ll go over typical speech and language development, common challenges like articulation errors and language delays, and simple strategies to help students in the classroom. You’ll learn how to create a language-rich environment, use helpful prompts and cues, and know when to reach out for extra support from a Speech-Language Pathologist.

Exploring 3D Learning in Science: Integrating phenomenon-based teaching in action
Wednesday July 9, 2025 1:10pm - 1:25pm CDT
Dive into the heart of 3D learning with this professional development session designed to model an elementary science lesson using phenomenon-based teaching. Participants will experience how anchoring instruction in real-world phenomena fosters student curiosity, engages critical thinking, and supports the integration of the three dimensions of science learning: disciplinary core ideas (DCIs), science and engineering practices (SEPs), and crosscutting concepts (CCCs). This session will also explore practical strategies to utilize and supplement your current curriculum ("science weekly") to deepen science understanding while integrating phenomenon based teaching and incorporating literacy practices.
