We will quickly move forward in time with a pragmatic approach to classroom management, empowering teachers with effective strategies for navigating today's classroom. The session facilitators will draw inspiration from several sources and model a close read with a fun processing activity. Teachers of all levels will walk away with five practical steps to help curb classroom behavior issues and invoke a positive classroom culture. The session facilitators will model several strategies that can be adapted for use in any setting.
Our students go through so much in the 21st century, and reflecting on their experiences provides much insight into how we can support them. In this session, Mr. Brick Cullum (AR History Teacher of the Year 2022) recalls his experiences being bullied in middle school, junior high, and high school to provide participants with an opportunity for introspection. This story of overcoming obstacles and embracing possibilities showcases a clear message of uplift. Deep, meaningful strategies for supporting students are highlighted, as well as clear connections to learning.
Participants will learn the difference between modifications and accommodations. Additionally, participants will learn several strategies for tracking provided modifications and accommodations.
Objectives: Product- I can define my product (student outcome for the year and expectations throughout the year). SEL and ACADEMIC Systems- I can plan and implement my personal and student led systems that control my classroom. Management- I can describe and consistently implement my management systems. HR- I can state and adhere to my mission statement to staff, students, and parents. Productivity- I can outline my weekly plan to ensure student and personal productivity is maintained. Data Analysis- I can create a data collecting system that allows me to analyze my personal and student information to adjust my systems. Product Assessments- I can describe how I am going to effectively assess my students while following HQIM.
This session will inform the faculty of the special opportunities of PD across the US that are available to teachers. These special institutes and workshops are presented by scholars and professors of their given expertise. Stipends are available to attend once you get accepted. These classes sometimes offer 3 hours of college grad hours at a reduced cost.
